Learning To Live As Kings and Priests
God loves to bring restoration. He loves to find lost things and restore them. Throughout the Bible, we are called to live as Kings and Priests in the world. But what does it mean to serve as a King and a Priest in the Kingdom of God?
Many times in the Scriptures we are called to this assignment.
Exodus 19:6, I Peter 2:5-9, Revelation 1:6, 5:9-10
In the video linked below, Jason Dillingham and Derek Jones parallel the story of the Prodigal Son with God's call to living as Kings and Priests in the world. In the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15:20-32, we find that the Father does not just want His son back to serve Him. But that He wants to fully restore his position in the family as a son and heir..
The son shows back up stinky, dirty, broke and hurting. The son is hoping to secure a position as a servant, but the Father has other plans. He places 3 items on the son to represent the full restoration as His son.
Robe - This is a call to his spiritual IDENTITY. Robes represented righteousness and being clothed meant you were covered by God's protection. And it was seen as a garment of the priesthood in the Tabernacle and Temple. Genesis 3:21, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Exodus 28:40-42, Isaiah 61:10
Ring - This is a picture of his spiritual AUTHORITY and POWER. Because he wore the family signet ring, he had the same standing as the Father. He can speak on behalf of His father. He now stand as an ambassador, representing the family interest. 2 Corinthians 5:20, Deuteronomy 17:14-20
Sandals - This is the restoration of his spiritual WALK. Walk is a picture of how you carried yourself in life. It was a way to reveal your character, values and interests. The lifestyle walk of the Father was one who loved, forgave and served others with His possessions. The son could now walk as a full heir. I John 2:6, Ephesians 1:3, 7, Ephesians 4:1
